Nothing Door placed in the jam! What next?

We took some time off from Nothing Door and all the commotion around it for a little while so we could celebrate the holidays and actually relax. With both of us having day jobs, the time to relax and enjoy the season is precious, and so it's important to us that we use it!

But now we're back, and we're ready to get back to work on Nothing Door. We've got a lot of work to do, and we're excited to get back to it. We've got a lot of plans for the game, and we're excited to share them with you as we go.

So, here's to a new year, and a new Nothing Door!

The End of the Jam

After a month-long voting period, the wait to see what people REALLY thought of Nothing Door is over! We definitely have gotten so much direct feedback on the game and people say they loved it, but who knows? Maybe they're LIARS!

Dramatics aside, Nothing Door placed 3th in the jam, and apparently that qualifies as having 'won' it! Pretty cool.

I think I'm most proud of having placed 1st in the 'Gameplay' category. I had a gut feeling at the outset that the core idea behind Nothing Door was good. It was nice to see that confirmed.

The music was the weakest part of the game, scoring a 3.8 / 5. I think the short loop is the main reason. I was really proud of the music, but I think I could've pushed it further if I had more time... which I do! More updates to music will be coming with future updates.

Jam Jems

First off, big congratulations to the #1 winner, Knitten who made a very cool very polished game with kitties!

I thought the take on the theme was excellent and they definitely deserve the win.

Founding ranked 4th right after Nothing Door and was also a personal favourite. It won #1 for art and while of course I think my wife's art is the best, I can't say that it wasn't well deserved.

I think one of the most ambitious of the games was Diminishing Returns. It had unique UI and gameplay that made it quite an undertaking and an impressive feat for such a short jam. I also think it's one of the best uses of the theme in the jam.

What's next for the game?

Are we going to continue working on Nothing Door? Yes! We're going to continue working on Nothing Door. We're going to take a little time off to relax and enjoy the holidays, but we'll be back at it in the new year.

What will we be working on? Well, we've got a lot of ideas, but we're focusing on the core gameplay loop. We want to make sure that the game is fun and engaging, and that it's easy to understand what you're supposed to be doing. We're working on the UI and the controls to make sure that they're as intuitive as possible.

We're also working on the art. We're going to be adding more animations and more visual effects to make the game more interesting to look at. We're also adding more enemies and more weapons to make the game more interesting to play.

The game is now over 40 levels long, some of the later ones being very difficult. This means that it's time for some kind of 'warp' system to allow players to skip ahead to the later levels if they want to. We're working on that as well.

iOS, Android

We're also porting the game to iOS and Android. We're working on the UI and the controls to accomoate swipe controls and touch controls. We're also working on the art to make sure that it looks good on mobile devices.

Expanding the team

We're adding new people to the team to help us accomplish all of this while still expanding the core game. Daniel and Rich are helping us deliver the game to as many people as possible in 2024!

First of all, I'm glad you guys found the time to take a break. It's important to rest, game dev is  A L OT especially when you have a day job.

Very proud of your placement of the Jam!! Youv've earned it, and excited to see the game moving forward. It would make an excellent game app for IOS/ANDROID, especially once you juice up the art (cannot wait to see new assets and fun things from you guys!!! I love the art)

Good luck to your new members and looking forward for updates.

p.s: thank you for the shoutout. Made my day!
